Michail Sheshaberidze*


Mikheil Sheshaberidze was born in Kaspi (Georgia) and studied at the State Conservatory “Vano Sarajishvili” in Tbilisi, where he finished his vocal studies in 2006.

In 2007 he followed the masterclass of US soprano Lella Cuberli. In 2010 he participated to the International Vocal Academy “Renata Tebaldi e Mario del Monaco” – City of Pesaro. He is currently devoted to vocal studies under the guidance of Maestra Gianfranca Ostini.

 In 2011 he was awarded the 3rd prize at the “Gaetano Fraschini” contest for young lyric singers in Pavia. In November/December 2011 he participated to the 15th edition of Opera Domani, an AsLiCo project, with the opera “Nabucco, c’era una volta la figlia di un re” at the “G. Verdi” theater in Trieste and at the “Duni” theater in Matera.

In 2012 he made his debut with great success in the following roles: Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly by G. Puccini (orchestra conductor: Paolo Olmi), Don Josè in Carmen by G. Bizet, Cavaradossi in Tosca by G. Puccini, Roberto in Le Villi by G. Puccini, and Foresto in Attila by G. Verdi. Furthermore, he was awarded the 3rd prize at the “La Città Sonora 2012” International Lyric Contest in Cinisello Balsamo (Milan).

In the summer of 2014 he sang the role of Don Josè in Carmen at the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese (July Musical Corporation of Trapani). Later, he was engaged by the Teatro Regio di Parma for the Verdi Festival as a cover with the role of Don Alvaro in Forza del Destino. He performed the role twice to substitute the indisposed first singer.

He recently interpreted the role of Antonio in Das Liebesverbot and that of Ismaele in Nabucco at the “Verdi” theater in Trieste. Afterwards, he sang the role of Don Josè in Carmen under the conduction of Gianluca Martinenghi at the Split Opera (Croatia), and the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly under the conduction of the same Milanese maestro. He also sang as Claudio in Das Liebesverbot at the Teatro Real in Madrid.

His debut at the Arena di Verona in the 2016 season was very successful. He sang as Don Josè and Radames together with artists of ample international allure. He was reconfirmed by the Fondazione for Tosca and Norma in the winter season.

In 2017 he sang as Canio in I Pagliacci and Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Seoul Arts Center; Ismaele in Nabucco and Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Arena di Verona Opera Festival; Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca; Radames in Aida at the Estonian National Opera; Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Tbilisi Paliashvili Opera House. His next performances include Cavaradossi in Tosca within the network of the Teatri di Tradizione of Brescia, Cremona, Bergamo, Como and Pavia, and his debut in Otello at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna under the direction of Cristina Muti.
